We were lucky with the weather for the Sweeney family’s photography session at Plessey Woods, just outside Morpeth in Northumberland. I’d been meaning to try this location for a while and it turned out to be a great choice—woodland paths, open spaces, and soft autumn light all in one place.
About The Sweeney Family's Outdoor Photography Session
Like most parents, Kay and Stephen arrived with a few worries about how the session might go—whether the girls would cooperate, whether everyone would be in the mood. It’s completely normal, and it usually settles quickly. Eliza and Thora were wonderful. Once we got going, the session was relaxed and easy, with plenty of movement and a bit of exploring along the way. The result? A collection of genuine, relaxed photographs that truly capture the spirit of this lovely family.
By the end of the session, the girls were ready for some time in the park, while Mum and Dad took a break with a coffee.
Looking through the images later, it was clear how well everything came together. The relaxed approach made a big difference, and there’s a nice mix of natural moments throughout. A few of the images worked particularly well in black and white too, giving them a simple, timeless feel.
We would highly recommend Gayle for a family photoshoot. She was brilliant with our children, and even tamed our wild one!
The shoot itself was very enjoyable and Gayle had some great ideas, managing to make us feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. We were thrilled with the photos - she captured everyone’s personalities and we will treasure them.
